The is a strong starter solenoid. I didn't have the ground wire on my old one but I just added one because it is necessary for the solenoid to activate. The 2 flat terminals need a positive and ground and I don't think it matters wich side you pick because it will work. This solenoid is spinning my 12hp like it needs clearance for take off. If you replace your solenoid and still get a hesitating spin,it's time to adjust your values. My intake is 003" and exhaust is 005". Many other Briggs are the same. My solenoid burned because I kept trying to start an engine that was screaming fix me. I was pushing 13 hot volts and that should have told me something ?
